Woodlawn    2        Castleknock Celtic    2

 Saturday 11th September 2004

Castleknock travelled in style to Santry for their first away match of the season . They were collected in Laurel Lodge by a Mercedes Minibus, kindly supplied by team sponsor, Patrick Rocca. We weren’t sure who were the most excited………….the players ……..or…. the parents.

Castleknock started off strong against a very big Woodlawn side. Dan Ring , Phillip Fitzpatrick and Ryan Moore Kearney combined well to put pressure on the Woodlawn goal.  Phillip charged through the Woodlawn defence and forced a corner. Despite all the attacks, Woodlawn broke away and a long speculative shot beat Celtic’s ‘keeper after 5 minutes.  Luke Henshaw worked tirelessly in midfield and  it was appropriate that it was he who scored Celtic’s equaliser.  He gathered the ball in the middle of the park from a clearance and shot high to give the keeper no chance.

Woodlawn scored their second immediately from the tip-off in the second quarter.  It was a freak goal and totally undeserved.  Fair play to Castleknock, they held their heads up and fought back like tigers.  There was relentless pressure on the Woodlawn goal but somehow they held out until the last quarter.  Luke was charging with the ball but his shot was handled by a defender.  The referee pointed to the spot.  Ryan buried it past the ‘keeper to complete the scoring……great celebrations, both on and off the pitch .
