NDSL
U-9s Muriel McCrory Cup, 2nd Leg
Saturday, November 13, 2004
This
victory was built on a very solid defence which withstood Woodlawn attacks and
set up Celtic offences. The opener followed good interplay between Ryan Moore
Kearney and Philip Fitzpatrick. Philip went by a couple of players and beat the
‘keeper with a strong shot.
In
the second quarter, play became a bit sloppy and Woodlawn equalized. There was
no doubt that the home side were the better team. They were inspired by a
magnificent performance by Captain Fantastic, Danny Byrne. In defence, midfield
or attack, Danny was there……wining possession and creating chances. It was
poetic justice that Danny finished off another Castleknock attack when he
rattled the back of the net, to put Celtic in the lead again.
A
long clearance by Eoin Sweeney was knocked on by a defender and Ryan pounced on
it to score number 3. At the end of the game, Dave Fogarty complimented the side
on it’s performance but stressed that goals were important…… but so too,
was a solid defence and, today, there was excellent defending by Patrick Rocca,
Dan Ring, Eve Farrelly, Tom Fogarty, Eoghan O’Donnchu and Eoin Sweeney in
goal.
This
was a strong performance against a side in the same division and Celtic now
progress to Round 2 after wining on aggregate 6-2.
