After
the euphoria of last week’s comeback, Celtic were quietly confidant of
capitalizing on that victory. However, Belgrove were a well-organized side and
very confidant on the ball. Five minutes into the match, against the run of
play, Belgrove opened the scoring with a soft goal.
It
was a real kick in the pants for the home side. It was the stimulus needed to
get Celtic going. A long clearance from ‘keeper Eoin Sweeney was headed on by
Ryan Moore Kearney to Philip Fitzpatrick who beat a couple of players to open
the home sides account. The adrenalin was flowing through the squad with Tom
Fogarty, Philip and Ryan playing their hearts out. A minute later, Ryan treated
us to a little magic. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box with 3 or 4
defenders around him He tantalized, bamboozled and tormented these Belgrove
players and emerged with the ball to bury it past the ‘keeper. Great
celebrations all around for a wonderful goal. By the time we were going home in
the car, description of the goal was that there were SIX defenders around him.
What
happened after that was a lapse in concentration and Belgrove scored two more
soft goals. They increased the pressure on the Celtic goal and could have had a
hatful but for some fine goalkeeping by Eoin Sweeney. The final score was
Castleknock Celtic 2
