NDSL U-11A League
Sunday, April 24th, 2005
Boyne rovers arrived at Porterstown,
thinking that they would have an easy
game of beating Castleknock Celtic's U-12A. In both games
Castleknock had played against Boyne, Celtic had an under-strength team.
Now however they had a full strength team and were up for it.
In the first half, Castleknock had all the
possession with David Cummins, Sean Hanlon, Paul McGrath and Conor Mooney all
going close. Finally, the break through came as David Cummins took a shot,
which was deflected off Sean Hanlon. The keeper saved, but it spilled back
to Sean Hanlon, who finished well into the bottom right hand corner.
From the tip-off, Paul McGrath intercepted
the ball, passed it to Indigo, got the return and lobbed the keeper from the
edge of the box. A classic finish.
Castleknock went into the break 2-0 up.
The
second half started much the same with
Castleknock on top. Then as Conor Mooney broke through, he squared the
ball to Sean Hanlon, who chipped the ball into the top corner. Another
beauty.
Then with a lapse in concentration, Boyne Rovers broke away and their forward finished superbly.
Castleknock responded with a great goal, which Paul McGrath put away with great aplomb.
The final score was a deserved 4-1 win to Celtic.
