Castleknock Celtic  2    Mellowes  1

NDSL U-17A Division

17th May 2005

Castleknock Celtic 17B's beat Mellowes 2-1 in a hard fought contest in Porterstown. The visitors started brightly but an under-strength Castleknock side battled hard and gradually came to grips with them.

An excellent save by Celtic Keeper Gary Creaner kept the sides level and eventually Celtic's efforts paid off when top scorer Fran Lowe scored his 16th goal of the season to put them 1-0 up. This was followed by a lovely ball over the top by Stephen Kirwan which was picked up by Giresse Makundayi who ghosted past the Mellowes defence to score Celtic's 2nd.  2-0.

The injuries that have plagued Celtic all season struck again and Mark McLoughlin had to be taken off to be replaced by Celtic's only available substitute Emmet McDonnell who was also carrying an injury. Mellowes came back strongly in the second half and scored a good goal. It was all hands to the pump for Celtic after that, but they held on to collect the 3 points, which gave them their fourth successive win with 14 goals scored and only 2 against in those 4 games. With only 1 game left, this win now puts them firmly in the hunt for the runners up position in the NDSL 17A division.

Well done to Tim Duffy who continues to show rare dedication to this team which he has managed since their childhood.
