Maynooth
Town 1 Castleknock Celtic

Castleknock Celtic travelled
West to take on Maynooth Town who are in second place in the
League (8A1) - one place above Celtic.
A very exciting match
followed. End to end fare with both sides creating a
number of chances. Celtic managed to get through on goal
a couple of times early on but failed to make the
chances count. In the third quarter, Maynooth took the
lead from a free kick and things looked ominous. However
the visitors applied pressure in the final quarter and
eventually won a free kick with minutes remaining. Kevin
Miller took the free and hit a great shot into the
corner of the net giving the goalie no chance. This
completed the scoring and in the end a draw was probably
a fair result although Celtic may regret the missed
opportunities earlier in the game. The result
keeps Celtic in with an outside chance of runners-up and
gives the kids something to play for over the remainder
of the season.
Special mention
to goalkeeper Ken Murphy for a couple of fine saves and
Barry Neville and Stuart Rocca for good performances in
midfield. The defence kept its record as the meanest in
the league with just ten goals conceded in the league to
date.
