Castleknock Celtic 2 Tyrellstown 0
This was a hard-fought contest between Dublin 15 neighbours, Castleknock and Tyrellstown. Celtic had a number of chances in the first half, but they failed to convert any of them. So it was finely balanced 0-0 at half time.
10 minutes into the second half, Adam O'Callaghan was through one-on-one with the keeper, who made a tremendous stop to keep the sides level. Adam had gone very close a little earlier with a shot from 12 metres just wide of the right hand post.
Celtic were awarded a penalty kick on 25 minutes, but Simon Fleming hit the foot of the post with his effort. But the break-through came soon after Eddie O'Callaghan's substitutions after 28 minutes. Billy Thompson and Paul Murray were introduced into the middle of the park. And it was not long that the move proved decisive. Paul slid a decisive through ball to Billy and he side-footed it to back of the net for his second goal in as many outings. 1-0 to Celtic.
With 7 minutes remaining, we all sensed a bit of deja vu. We had the previous week witnessed a classic shot from 25 metres, in the mould of Emlyn Hughes, Liverpool's crazy-horse of the 70's, when Colm Brady bulged the net with his classic strike. Colm gave us a reprise this Sunday, when he gave Celtic their insurance score from a similar distance. 2-0 Celtic.
There was talk on the line of the finished article, but the onlookers didn't know what the reporter meant. Football is a funny old game, isn't it!
