NDSL Cup Final
Sat. 6th May 2006
Castleknock Celtic 0 Malahide Utd 3
Celtic did great to get to the final, but alas it was not to be their day. Our lads from D1 were up against a team from the C2, who are therefore from a higher division. For long spells in this game you would not have thought so, as Celtic matched the Malahide opposition stride for stride.
Only 2 Celtic teams had got to the 7-a-side finals, so that shows you how good an achievement it was to get so far.
Celtic were dealt a blow after a couple of minutes when Malahide broke through. Their striker, who looked to be from a totally different level, unleashed a vicious shot that gave young Andrew Treadwell no chance in the Celtic goal. Celtic did battle throughout, and did have chances, but the Malahide defence stood firm and when they were breached, the ball was just wide.
We must congratulate the lads, including those who could not play because of numbers restrictions, and thank them for putting on a performance that we are all proud of. Well done to Padraig O'Briain, Martin Treadwell and Graham Penrose, who prepared the boys so well.
Anthony Healy, Lee Penrose, Jack O'Brien, Saad Ahsan, Ross Geissel, Andrew Treadwell, Darragh O'Neill, Daniel Boyle, Senan McAllorum, Gary McCabe. Cillian Croash, Max Maiberg, Luke Nulty.
If parents took any digital photos, please let the webmaster have them so that he can upload them on to this report. The cameraman's equipment underperformed in the dull weather.
