5th August 2003

This will be the last update by me for the next few weeks, I am moving back to Kent sometime during next week.

I wish to thank all of my friends who have made membership of the LMAC such a memorable and extremely pleasent experience, I hope that as many of you, who can find the time, will attend the meeting on Thursday in order that I may make my farewells.

It may well be that I will continue as webmaster for the club when I get my computer up and running in England, that will be for the committee to decide in due course, until that happens Gerry Forde will be looking after the site.

To my "Very Special" freinds in the club I say keep up the good work, you have, what I believe to be, the best club in Ireland, it can only grow and prosper in future years.

31st July 2003

The monthly club meeting will be held on 7th August, at "John Browns" Market Square, Longford, adjacent to
Super Valu.

This will be the last meeting that Alan will be able to attend prior to his move back to England, he hopes that you will come along and give him the opportunity to say farewell. (and buy you a pint!)

Little flying has been done this month due to the inclement weather therefore there is little to report.

4th July 2003

At the club meeting on 3rd July we were all very pleased to accept the treasurers report for the last financial year, the report was accepted unanimously, the new gate is now in place at the field, we have Liam and James to thank for a job well done!

Since the adoption of the mowing rota we are pleased to report that the patch is in fine fettle and that the silage on the main field has been cut.

With great regret Alan informed the meeting that he will be returning to England during August, with advancng years it is practical for Janet and Alan to be nearer to relatives, also the fact that Janet does not drive will become more of a problem as time goes by.

In view of the above changes have to be made and these are as follows:

Colm Kelly will now take over as safety officer, Gerry Forde is now Treasurer, James Lennon is now training officer, ably assisted by Liam Reilly.

There will be flying at the field on Saturday at 2.00 pm in addition to the usual Sunday session.

25th June 2003

What a great evenings flying at the field this evening, the patch is in superb condition and the weather, and light, was great.

James "The Hatchet Man" demolished Dave Foley's "Madness" in a dramatic mid air collision with "The Prangster" which suffered virtually no damage! Gerry's "Dazzler" became a two piece version after an "interesting" arrival at the patch.

The cabaret was provided, as always, by Liam and was up to the usual high standard we have all come to expect,
(what would we do without the dear boy), characters like this are difficult to come by!

Despite the above a really great time was had by all with flying right up to 9.45pm, if you have not attended the evening sessions then you really are missing out on some great craic, get your name on the list with Dave Furneaux for notification of the evening sesssions!

James Extra has had the elevator flutter cured today, and a smaller prop fitted, now the 120 pumper has been run in we can all look forward to a bit of the "Posh Stuff" at the weekend

There will be a meeting of the club on Thursday 3rd of July, venue Eamon Keirnans (as usual)

23rd June 2003

Sunday was a cloudy day but at least it was dry, orientation was a bit of a problem due to the light levels therefore it was decided that the fun fly would take place at a later date.

We had a great flying session on Wednesday evening last week, we intend to get the evening flying going on a regular basis over the next few weeks.

17th June 2003

A fly for fun competition will be held this weekend for club members only, come along and "have a go" flying to commence at 11.30 am (very small prizes but great "craic")

8th June 2003

MOWING ROTA 2003

8th June 2003 1 Cathy Flynn / David Furneaux

15th June 2003 2 Dave Foley / Emmet O'Gara

22nd June 2003 3 Alan Forrest / Colm Kelly

29th June 2003 4 James Lennon / Frank McNamee

6th July 2003 5 Liam Reilly / Gerry Forde

13th July 2003 6 Billy Harrison / Pat Heffernan

20th July 2003 7 Frank Kelly / Francis Kelly

27th July 2003 8 John McAuley / Ian McAuley

The above rota includes both flying sites (mowing of the Carriglass Manor flying site will not be required until further notice).

When team no. 8 have completed the mowing then the mowing will automatically start with team no. 1 again and so on. For the satisfaction and enjoyment for all, It is most important that each team carry out the mowing prior to 11.00 a.m, on the allotted day.

If for some reason that a team are unable to carry out the mowing on their assigned weekend, then they should swap with another team.

6th June 2003

Following the monthly meeting for June:

Patch mowing rota will be published on the web site later this week along with the final frequency allocations, please ensure that you have the correct crystals from this point on, if you have not you may not be allowed to fly! remember that the frequency peg board is still in use and takes priority over all else.

Regarding safety matters:

Remember that the first member to arrive at the patch allocates the pits area as per our rules, please ensure that the pits area is ALWAYS at least twenty full paces from the patch.

The Carriglass Manor Site:

It was decided that the patch on the new site will be prepared following the first cut of silage, which should take place within the next week or so.

3rd May 2003

Due to safety considerations the club will not be flying at Lanesboro this weekend, we are advised that a static display, by the LMAC, does not meet with the requirements of the organizers therefore we shall not be attending.

As you are all fully aware safety in everything we do, in connection with our hobby, is of paramount importance to the club, if there is the slightest doubt regarding a display venue then we have no alternative, and a responsibility, to decline to fly at any proposed event.
We received only three weeks notice of the event at Lanesboro, in view of the situation which we experienced at last years display, and the committee's doubts regarding the suitability of the proposed flying area, it was felt that much more would need to be addressed, and attended to, before the club could fly in absolute confidence that the general public would not be put at any perceived risk from our models.
It is without any doubt whatsoever that the organisers would have done all they could to ensure the safety of the public, however it is the clubs past experience and knowledge of the dangers of model aircraft which must prevail at all times.
We have an irrevocable responsibility to ourselves, the MACI and the public which we cannot ignore under any circumstances.

The new site is now open for business, subject to the club being able to get the grass cut between the showers.

Directions to the new site:
On the N4 at Longford there are three roundabouts, at the middle roundabout follow the sign for Carriglass Manor, the sign is a large brown sign and cannot be missed (this exit is signposted to Granard also) proceed for about two miles when you will see the main entrance to Carriglass on the right hand side, proceed past this entrance to the next entrance which is about one hundred yards further on on your right, the entrance is a large stone arch which is fairly narrow. Proceed through the arch, on keeping to the right you will come to a small crossroad area with gates to the right and left, enter through the gate on your right and park on the grass on your left, the patch will then be in front of you at the top of the hill just in front of the trees.
