Rules for pilots when using the clubs field.

Safety of pilots and spectators is of paramount importance to the Longford Model Aero Club, as such we expect all of our members and guests comply with the general rules of the M.A.C.I.

Longford Model Aero Club Local Site Rules.

Bonafide visitors can only fly with the express permission of a Club Official to whom proof of insurance must be produced. Visitors may enter the site by invitation only, responsibility for their behavior, and complience with the clubs site rules, is the responsibility of the inviting member.

The Safety Officers directions re -flying and flying aid management must be followed at all times.

Flying will not commence before 11.00am on any day.

All members will be allocated their own frequency, no other frequency may be used under any circumstances.

All flyers must use the Peg off frequency method when the frequency board is in use.

All members flyers must check that their transmitting frequency is clean before switching on their transmitter.

All members who have not passed the M.A.C.I (A) test MUST be accompanied by a member who has qualified for the M.A.C.I. "A" or "B" test.

All models which have not flown at our site before MUST be presented for inspection by a member of, at least, "A" certificate standard prior to flying for the first time

Only pilots actually engaged in flying, or training, are allowed in the immediate vicinity of the patch. After take off pilots must vacate the take off and landing area of the patch to the designated area, which will be twenty feet from the road side of the patch. The only people allowed on the patch will be the pilot and, if applicable, his pit man during take off or recovery after landing. The pits area will always be between the patch and the road alongside the site and at least fifty yards from the patch.

Overflying the pits area is strictly forbidden.

The flying area for helicopters will be at least fifty yards from the fixed wing patch and always on the road side of the fixed wing patch. Helicopters may be started in the pits area but must be carried to the designated area for actual flying.

The instructions of the safety officer, or his designate, must be adhered to.

All landings, including dead stick landings, must be called.
(dead stick landings have priority over 'power on' landings).

Mid air collisions are deemed accidental, however perceived dangerous flying, which may cause a collision, will be subject to investigation by the Club.

Large power models over 7kg and/or over 2.5m wingspan must be registered with M.A.C.I.
non-compliance means.. no insurance
and you will not be allowed to fly!!

The instructions of the clubs safety officer must be complied with at all times. The adoption of safe practices ensure the enjoyment of all members of the club, there is no substitute for common sense, model aircraft can be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands!!

Bye-Laws Flying Site Approval Passed 12/04/81 and amended

General Policy

Our member to member insurance policy requires that flying shall take place only from "approved flying sites" and the following should constitute the categorization of such approved flying sites for radio control use.

The site should be large enough to provide a minimum of approx. 300m x 100m clear space, containing no buildings, people or roads.

Unobstructed take off and landings, approaches.

No overhead cables, telephone wires etc. within the flying site.

No overflying of spectators or of the car parking area!!

A minimum separation of 200m from residential buildings or other noise sensitive areas, for powered aircraft.

Flying shall be limited to fully paid up and insured members of M.A.C.I. at all times. No non M.A.C.I. members shall be allowed to fly in any site under the Bye-laws other than bonafide visitors from outside Ireland who are themselves members of and insured with the relevant controlling body for model aviation in the country of residence.
