PRESS  RELEASE  FROM   BRENDAN  KELLY
INDEPENDENT  CANDIDATE  FOR  EAST  GALWAY
IN  THE  MAY  2002  GENERAL  ELECTION

START OF PRESS RELEASE NUMBER 2
Monday March 4th 2002

(3) The Green Party informed me on February 16th 2002 that (for a variety of
reasons) they would not be ratifying my nomination to run for election on
their behalf in the May 2002 General Election in the Republic of Ireland.

(4) It is now my intention to run as an independent candidate, and as such I
plan to co-operate to the best of my ability with all other individuals and
groups who are trying to protect the environment.

(5) The biggest threat to my local environment at the present time is the
super dump which Celtic Waste plan to build in Kilconnell.

The site they have earmarked is less than one mile from where myself and several members
of my family have lived for many years (and for many generations).

On February 1st 2002 I petitioned the European Parliament regarding the
Celtic Waste super dump plans for Kilconnell. A copy of the text can now be
seen at the following www page address:
http://homepage.eircom.net/~kellybrendan/petition1/feb-1-2002.htm

I have received a favourable written reply (dated February 26th 2002) from
the European Parliament regarding my petition to them of February 1st -
which the European Parliament has given the reference: "Petition No.
235/2002".  An electronic copy of their letter can now be seen at page:
http://homepage.eircom.net/~kellybrendan/Feb_26_2002.htm

(6) I plan to campaign on a wide range of environment issues in the run-up to
the May 2002 General Election.

In addition to the superdump matter mentioned above, and among other things, these will include:

(a) The quality of local drinking water, the unlawful sewage discharges into the
river in New Inn village, and the apparent addition of Sodium Hypochlorite
(to the local drinking water) - which presumably is Galway County Council's
way of dealing with the illegal sewage pollution? Also, there is the matter
of the associated unlawful air pollution (in the vicinity of the New Inn
Community Centre building).

(b) The unlawful destruction of local heritage sites (possibly with the aid of a
government grant in one case).

(c) The spraying (by Coillte) of local forests - including Woodlawn - with very
dangerous pesticides such as Lindane.
