Kenmare is a charming, pituresque town nestled among the Caha mountains hence its Irish name Néidín meaning little nest. It is situated 12 kilometers from "Fishermans Cove" at the head of the Kenmare Bay where the Roughty river flows into the sea. The town was awarded the "Irelands tidiest small town" award in 1996 and the "Kerrys tidiest small town" award in 1997.It was also chosen by "The Irish Tourist Board" to become Kerrys first Heritage town,which inspired the construction of a Heritage Centre where the Tourism Office is located. Kenmare enjoys a well-deserved reputation for its excellent cuisine,due to it's geographical location fresh seafood is served in most restaurants. Kenmare's night life includes a night club and many Pubs where local musicians perform traditional Irish music regularly. Kenmare has inspired many Craft workers and Lace, Knitwear, Jewelery, Pottery, Wooden Crafts, Needlework and Paintings are created locally.

  • The original Kenmare Suspension Bridge constructed in 1840 was the first of it's kind in Ireland,and was later replaced in 1932 by the present bridge.
