Channel 31    by    Ken Armstrong

Felix is dying and has a dread fear of being buried alive.  He begs his brother Cosmo to install a telephone line between his coffin and the house in case he should wake up.  But British Telecom won’t hear of such a thing.

Cosmo resorts to wiring a CB radio into the grave. He puts another in his house and monitors Channel 31 in case his dead brother should happen to call.

Cosmo’s sister arrives and is appalled at the unnatural communication system which is in place.  He tries to win her over by demonstrating the social advantages of having a CB but the ‘breaker’ they link up with is somewhat distracted.

Someone, it seems, is screaming up on Channel 31....

This second short play was intended as a light-hearted piece of blackness which incorporated nods to Edgar Allen Poe and CB Trucker Movies.  The cast had a lot of fun with its Gothic excesses.

‘Channel 31’ was produced by Tim Crook for Independent Radio Drama Productions in 1992.  It starred David Peart, Jamie Ripman and Lisa Bowerman
