October 29th 1981 - Radio Carousel, Navan. The station was based in the County Meath town of Navan, in the local Navan Shopping Centre. The studio was in a hexagonal unit, surrounded by glass on all sides. The big AM transmitter was located across from the studio, just on the roof of the giant Penneys Department Store. The frequency was 1386 Kilohertz. Although this equals 216 metres, the announced wavelength was 210 "two-ten meters". Pictured at the opening here are (left) Tony Farrelly and (right) Hugh Hardy. That's me in the middle, before I grew my beard!!! You can read a very detailed history of Radio Carousel here.
