Organically composted fertilisers are mans attempt to speed up the process that occurs naturally in the soil. In nature, organic matter comes mainly from dead plant material. The plant remains contain starches, sugars and proteins which will break down slowly. Carbon dioxide is produced as the matter decays, and ceases as humus is formed which will not break down much further. What remains is a black substance containing complex chemicals which are in time broken down by soil life and changed into plant food.

A natural organic fertiliser is better for your soil than commercial fertilisers for three main reasons.

1. It is much cheaper (and really quite easy) to make your own.

2. It avoids any pollution during manufacture or any subsequent pollution during use.

3. The list of benefits to the soil is a long one, and include humus, bulk, tilth,...... etc, etc.
