Below is a photo of a nice bag of trout caught during an 'evening rise' at Kilcoleman.

May 2008.
Cold easterly winds persisted for most of the month which had a detrimental effect on angling. There were some good weeks for trout anglers and at Kilcoleman Mathieu Aste's party from Zurich had some good sized trout on very small nymphs. Also caught were some nice early sea trout which is quite unusual for us as early in the season as this. Roger McGovern from Sydney Australia managed 6 nice trout all to an Ausie version of a Grey Duster! Edward Helps a marine biologist from Galway had 9 trout averaging 12ozs all to his own tied flies. Terry Townsend on his ninth visit to Kilcoleman had a couple of sea trout on the 2 pound mark plus some nice brownies. So all in all Kilcoleman had a good month for trout despite difficult weather conditions for most of it. However no one managed to take a salmon to fly off this fishery although a number were observed coming to them and Jonathan did loose one early in the month at Wrens Stream. David reckons this was due to the cold surface wind which cooled the air to a temperature below that of the water. On the remainder of the river a number of nice salmon were taken off various associations waters. A 15 pound fish was reported to have been taken just above tidal water in Innishannon and 2 good fish taken around Desert Bridge to shrimp.
Week commencing July 6th. A good week on The Bandon. The big story was the cock fish weighing just over 28lbs caught by Bill Canning on Bandon Association water. A picture of this can be seen on the central fisheries board web site. In all it is estimated that there were about 20 fish landed up and down the river with a good few lost. At Kilcoleman we had four on the 10lbs mark and a further two lost. One fish was released. Ray Rowley from Stourbridge had two nice fish (his first salmon ever) for his week's stay, and Jonathan had two with one released. After a lapse of five years David issued himself with a licence and within 10 minutes on Wrens Stream got into a nice fish at the end of the stream. Unfortunately he parted company within five minutes! The best of the trout fishing has been taken place after about 9 pm in the evenings.
Please note that we have had a cancellation for the apartment for the last week of the season (20th to 27th September). If anyone wants this we are willing to rent it through to the last day of the season (Tuesday 30th) at no extra charge 10 days for the price of 7. We can also arrange to collect you at Cork airport for a small consideration!
