Annavilla House |
|
The house was
built in the late 1600s . It was
built by the Faltsberrys , and was based
on a French design . The next owners
were the Jessops , followed by the Delacados
. From that time it was mostly Protestant
families who lived there . Following the
Delcados , the Kings Mill Moores were
the next owners . One of the Kings Mill Moores
became the Chief Justice of Ireland . The
famous Kings Mill Gates were at the
entrance to the estate . Over the years ,
very important people from all over
the world stayed in the house . At
that stage , there were about 70 acres around
the house . The O’ Callaghans from Birr became
the next tenants , but only for a very
short time . Morris O’ Callaghan was a member
of the land Commission . They returned to
Birr , and his sons emigrated to Canada
. The next tenant was the Colgan family
. This was about 50 years ago .
Mrs. Colgan taught in the Boys N.S. for over 30 years . Following the Colgans , the Donnelly family purchased the property . First was Paddy Donnelly and then he was followed by Gerry Donnelly . The Flynn family , purchased the property in 1993 , and the house was fully renovated . James Flynn now farms the farm , which is approx. 50 acres , and is helped by his son Barry , a pupil of St. Cormac’s Boys National School . The house consists of four very large bedrooms on the upper level , and on the lower level , there are three bedrooms , a bathroom , livingroom , and kitchen . There are large old stone sheds at the side of the house . |
