Kilcormac

Kilcormac is situated on the N52 between Tullamore and Birr in the centre of Co. Offaly. 
Kilcormac  [Cill Chormaic]  means the Church of  Cormac. The town was once called Frankford , 
 after  Francis  Mc Awley. There are several places of  historical interest such as the Mill ,
Annaghvilla , Frankford House , Munny House, Ridgemount House, and St. Cornacs Well. The 16th century Pieta is located in the local Parish Church.

The current population of the town is about 1,100 and is expanding. New houses are being built around the area. The Main St. is the centre part of the town and consists of shops, pubs , a bank , post office,
a credit union and a general hardware store. There is also a Garda station , fire station and a health
centre.

Kilcormac has several sporting facilities including  GAA , soccer ,handball and  a community centre.
Nearby attractions include the Silver River , Lough Boora , Kinnitty Castle,  Slieve Bloom Mountains,
Clonmacnoise and Birr Castle. There  is a large Vocational School situated in the town , as well as 
St. Cormac’s Boy’s National School, and Scoil Mhuire Girl’s National School. Altogether there are
seven primary schools in the Parish. Al l of these schools are taking part in the SIP project.
