Kilglass Gaels Granola Bars

(EATING THESE BARS WILL MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE)

2oz  Kellogg’s CRUNCHY NUT – lightly crushed

4oz  Butter

2oz Soft Brown Sugar

2 fl oz Honey  

A Few drops of Vanilla Extract

9oz Porridge Oats – Jumbo Oats are preferable

1oz Decissicated Coconut – Toasted

1 ½ oz Whole Almonds – Chopped

1 ½ oz Dates

2 ½ oz Figs

2 ½ oz Prunes

1 oz Sultanas

1 oz Cranberries

1 oz pumpkin Seeds

1 oz Sunflower Seeds

 

Preheat oven 350f / 170c /Gas 3

Line an 8in by 12in baking tray with baking parchment 

 

METHOD

  1. Toast the oats in the oven till lightly coloured 
  1. Reduce the heat to 300f / 150c / gas 2
  1. Chop the dried fruit into small even sized pieces; Mix this with oats, coconut, almonds, seeds and Kellogg’s CRUNCHY NUT
  2. Place the butter and sugar in a saucepan over low heat and stir till sugar is melted, then add in the honey increase the heat and allow to boil gently for 1 minute then add the vanilla extract
  3. Pour this onto the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly
  4. Pour into the tin and smooth in firmly
  5. Place in oven for 20 – 25 minuets till golden brown
  6. Remove from oven and allow cooling for 3- 4 hours till it is firm (not in the fridge)
  7. The granola may be turned onto a cutting surface and sliced into 12 bars  

These will store well in an air tight container  

Krumble from Kilglass

(Made with apples from around our “field of dreams”)

 2oz  Kellogg’s CRUNCHY NUT – lightly crushed

 10 oz Wholemeal flour

6oz Butter

7 oz Brown sugar  

4-5 Large Cooking Apples – Peeled and sliced

Sugar to taste

 Pre heat oven 350f/ 170c/ gas 3 

Method  

  1. Rub together the butter, flour and sugar; the texture will be crumbly and a little lumpy
  2. Gently fold in the  Kellogg’s CRUNCHY NUT  
  3. Arrange the apple in an ovenproof dish and add sufficient sugar to sweeten
  4. Spoon the crumble mix on top of apples to cover but do not press in
  5. Place in the oven for 30 – 40 minutes till lightly browned and apples are tender
  6. Serve with whipped cream, custard or ice cream.  

                         

 Goujons for the Gaels

Kellogg’s Cornflakes3-4 oz crushed finely

Chicken fillet 3-4 oz per portion – Cut to finger sized pieces

Flour – Salt, pepper, herbs and spices to taste

1 egg beaten  

Sunflower oil

 Method  

  1. Dust the chicken well in the seasoned flour
  2. Dip the chicken in the egg
  3. Roll the chicken in crushed Kellogg’s cornflakes  till well covered
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a pan, when very hot add in the chicken strips
  5. Allow to brown lightly then turn till all sides are coloured and the chicken is cooked. Simple as that!

Serve with a green salad and some mayonnaise or sweet chilli sauce

This method of preparation and cooking is also suitable for food items such as  

-          Pork chops (chops may be crumbed without slicing) with red onion marmalade

-          Peaches (Halve or quarter the peaches) with strawberry coulis and whipped cream

-          Bananas with butterscotch sauce and crème fraiche

Kilglass Gaels is a vibrant young club with a large number of volunteers. However, while the club has clubrooms, the condition of the pitch is the greatest drawback to everyone involved. To win this competition would mean so much to our Club and the wider community.The restoration would enhance sporting activities in general. For the sake of everybody using the facilities  ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN Kilglass Gaels would love to succeed in winning this makeover.

Marty Morrissey is our Mentor......a better man we could not have got!!!! Noreen Corcoran is our ambassador ....a better club woman we could not have....!!!!!Well Done Noreen.

    So each and everyone get behind us and VOTE VOTE VOTE and make our dream become reality. Come on Connacht!!!!!!
