Kilkenny Youthreach Hit the Right Note!

The achievements day coincided with the official launch of a music CD by participants in the Kilkenny Youthreach programme. The music group formed themselves into a band called "D-Strange" and composed a song entitled "Broken Down". They performed the song as part of the achievements day celebrations. The release of the CD is the culmination of six months work in such areas as song writing , instrumental tuition, musical performance and studio work.

The lyric of the song "Broken Down" is a reflection on adolescent experience, to which almost everyone in their teens will easily relate . The song begins with with an air of despondency but finishes optimistically:

"I go to my room and on my bed I sit, I get lost in a room that I'm trying to forget, Don't make me cry. ...
I'm gonna get up and face the world, so maybe I'm not so broken down after all.
"

The development of this arts project has resulted in the production and recording of their CD, which was supported and facilitated by Philip Cullen and Deirdre Gardiner who teaches music at Kilkenny Youthreach. During the forthcoming academic year "D Strange" plan to produce a video to accompany the CD which will receive air play on the local radio circuit!
