has set out our primary objective to provide and manage accommodation
for retired persons in Killavullen.
|

|
Approved Voluntary Housing Associations
qualify for Capital Assistance Programmes under Dept of Environment Grant
Scheme, thereby enabling houses for the elderly to be completed on circa
95% grant basis.
|
||||
|
The Community Council identified
the lands surrounding the Dispensary House as an ideal location for the
project in the Village.

Sept 2005 - Voluntary Housing Association formed by Community Council...... Housing Association aiming to build 10 housed and a Day Care / Dispensary facility...... Nov 2005 - Positive decision from HSE North Cork to approve sale of site and approval sought from HSE National Property Committee (Naas)..... Nov 2005 - Cork County Council approves the site for the project...... Nov 2005 - Draft memo and arts for Housing Association submitted and awaiting Revenue clearance..... Sept 2005 - Energy Office, Enterprise Board and other bodies pledge their full support for the project....... Nov / Dec 2005 - Architect Hired by Association to draw up plans...... |

How does the scheme
work in practice?

Houses when built will be owned by Killavullen Housing Association... Houses are then allocated...... Rents are set by the Irish Council for Social Housing - currently circa 55 Euro per week single, 80 Euro per week double.. Housing Association manage the tenancies, maintenance of site etc.... All available HSE and other supports may be availed of by residents if required (laundry, meals, chiropody etc)...... Active Day Care Center would encourage wide use by entire community for social activities........ Dispensary will be located in new purpose designed building that would be available to residents and entire community on same basis as present Dispensary...... |

The Committee has made on-site visits to 13 different locations since October 2005..... Schemes visited- Ballydesmond, Mallow, Kilcorney, Rathmore,Conna, Adare, Dromin Atlacca, Droncollogher, Kilworth, Fermoy, Tralee, (Energy Council) Carrigtwohill & Gorey. |

What happens next?

Committee has finalised draft plans for development of 10 Houses, Day Care Center and Dispensary.... Plans will be on display and followed by public meeting seeking views and inputs of the Community.... Subject to approval at Public Meeting plans will then be submitted to Cork County Council for Plannimg Permission... Fundraising drive to establish "start off costs" will be launched in March.... Ongoing efforts to get title transferred from HSE by mid-summer in line with targetted planning aproval....... |
