St. Brigid's Church, Mount Bolus
(Parish of Kilcormac and Killoughey)
Killoughey (also spelled Killoughy) lies in the southern extremity of the diocese of Meath, south-west of Tullamore in County Offaly, Ireland.
Before 1784 there were two distinct parishes of Killoughey and Ballyboy. The two parishes were united in 1784 and today form the present parish of Kilcormac. It shares its boundaries with the parishes of Eglish and Rahan, which are also within the diocese of Meath. It also shares boundaries with three neighbouring dioceses: the diocese of Ardagh & Clonmacnoise, the diocese of Kildare & Leighlin and the diocese of Killaloe. The two main villages in the Killoughey end of the Parish are Blueball and Mount Bolus.
The parish of Killoughey has Christian foundations dating from around 540AD and enjoys a rich history.
As part of our Celebrations for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, a committee was formed to produce a short history of the Killoughy section of the present day parish. This history was published before the beginning of the Jubilee and was launched at the Killoughey Community Centre, Mount Bolus on the 12th December 1999 by the Most Reverend Michael Smith, Bishop of Meath. The book is entitled "Killoughey - A Pilgrimage to our Past".
