The Haunted School INTRODUCTION It all started in 2002 I was in 6th class and it was the 7th year on that Monday and we knew it. Zoe and I knew this day was coming for weeks. The whole school did. Jo a girl from our class who's big into ghost stories had told us about the first time the ghost appeared - 99 years ago to be exact.. It was the Friday before. Our class sat around Jo. She started: In 1903 a boy called John moved from France he was starting in Junior Infants. He got on well with all the boys. It was never certain what happened but whatever John saw in that school it drove him insane. John became so weird that his parents took him out of school. He went to doctors and got help. John refused to go within a mile of the school. Seven years later he decided to go back to school. But suddenly he went mad again. Eventually his very stressed parents had to leave him in a certain part of the hospital where he was treated. John never got an education and he stayed there until he died. The night he died the nurses heard an awful sad piercing scream. The nurses ran to John's room and there he was wide-eyed and pale. Dead! And now the ghost returns every seven years. CHAPTER 1 'Mama, I'm not going. I'm feeling sick I might puke in school you wouldn't want that would you,' I asked. 'What's wrong with going to school?' Mam asked. 'Mum will you stop at me god! I'll just go to school but if I'm sick you'll have to come in and collect me and then you'll be sorry!' I stubbornly said. I ran out the door and slammed it shut behind me. The minute I got into school I really did have a pain in my stomach! I walked into the classroom and gave Lynn a weak smile. She looked more worried than me. I sat down in my seat next to Catherine. Mr O' Connell gave me a stern look. Suddenly the door flew open. Something appeared to come in. Mr O' Connell closed the door and made some silly excuse that the wind blew it open. But I knew there was no wind outside. Everyone else fell for it. An hour later our I went down to the library to get a book and all the books came out of the self, two seconds later the big solid self fell and hit the ground with a thud! Of course I got in deep trouble with O' Connell. But I didn't do anything. I had to stay in at break time and tidy up the place. When I was just putting the last book away, I heard calk rubbing against the blackboard. Naturally I assumed it was Mr O' Connell so without turning around I said ' Sir I'm finished.' There was no answer. I turned my head around slowly. The chalk was moving by itself. It seemed to be writing something, but I wasn't going to stay and find out! I ran down the corridor and into the staff room without knocking. 'Lynn what are you doing? It's not on I........' 'Sir, will you come to the classroom? Please!' 'Ok so, but if you're asking me down there for nothing.....' 'I'm not sir honestly' I answered assuringly. We walked down the hallway. I was scared out of my wits. Mr O' Connell entered the classroom first.' Oh my God' I said totally shocked. Up on the board it had a drawing of a beast and Mr o' Connell's name was written under it. 'Lynn......' 'I didn't do that honestly sir' 'Then who did it, the ghost?' he said sarcastically. 'Actually yeah' I muttered. CHAPTER 2 I walked home sadly because there was nothing as bad as being accused in the wrong. 'Lynn come on we're going to your Gran's house. Eat your dinner and get changed quickly. Your going to be staying Gran's for the evening because I have to go town' Mam said. At four we arrived at Gran's house. Mam told me to be good and to do as I'm told. I was cleaning Gran's book shelf when I came across a book that was titled ' The Misunderstanding in 1902'. I took it out. I brought it out to the kitchen where Gran was reading the paper I asked her what it was. She replied, 'My father wrote it. He used to work in the school where you're going to now. It's something about two teachers having a row and the one who didn't do anything wrong got fired. So your Grandad said anyway. Why don't you read it yourself.' I was after finishing the book when Mam beeped the horn. I was really excited. I ran to Gran and said 'Revenge! That's it. Thanks Gran you were a great help' Gran looked confused as I ran out the door. CHAPTER 3 When I walked into the classroom everyone looked worried but I had a happy face on me because I knew when the ghost appeared today he wouldn't come back. It was a great feeling. After about an hour the teacher walked out of the classroom. Then a sound came it was like a storm arising I turned my head sharply. I couldn't believe it there hovering near the back wall was the shadow of a skeleton face with two hollow pits where the eyes should have been. Slowly this skeleton face started shaping into a real face with bones and veins emerging from it. I plucked up the courage to walk to the front of the class. I picked up the chalk. My hands were shaking. When I was finished I stood back. This is what it said: 'George we know you didn't take the money we know it was Henry it's ok we know you're innocent. You didn't do anything wrong.' I turned around their was the skeleton face disappearing. 'Thank you. Finally I'm at rest.' Then it was gone. The children couldn't believe it. Everyone started to come up to me. Suddenly Mr o' Connell came in he gave out to us especially me and he told me to stay in at both breaks. I didn't care because the ghost was gone. CHAPTER 2 I walked home sadly because there was nothing as bad as being accused in the wrong. 'Lynn come on we're going to your Gran's house. Eat your dinner and get changed quickly. 'Ok I was going to anyway' I said as I wrapped the cord of the phone around my finger. "I went to my Gran's house and she had a book about the ghost and what happened. You see the ghosts name was George and he worked in the school. He sorted out all the money. His enemy worked in the school too, Henry. He took all the money and then everyone blamed George. So George haunted the school for revenge." ' You were lucky you found that book Lynn or the ghost would still be in the school.' 'I know Zoe. See you tomorrow.' 'Bye' and click the phone went dead. I went up to bed. As I turned the light off I thought 'What a day' and I dropped off to sleep.THE END. |
