About us

Our school was founded in 1965.Our school has six teachers and our principal working with five classrooms. The principal also trains the hurling team and the camogie team. The hurling and camogie teams have a great reputation in the locality. The school has won the Credit Union quiz and other quizzes. Other projects we have done are the Millennium Book and a project on our townlands and planting trees on National Tree Day and we planted them around the school. During the year we do tests and go on educational tours to places like the Burren. With the help of our teachers we can use computers, design our own web pages and scan pictures. Our school uniform for the boys is grey trousers, blue shirt and a navy jumper and for the girls we have a navy pinafore, blue blouse and a navy jumper.

Our Village

Kinnitty is a picturesque village, situated at the foot of Knocknaman, in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

The village is seven miles south east of Birr, it is the most historic part of the midlands, with ancient monuments of every description.Surrounded with groups of mature trees, the village is very scenic. The most amazing monument in the village is the Bernard pyramid, the only one of its kind in Ireland.

The village has a great history attached to it.

The Kinnitty Castle, a four star hotel, is a great tourist attraction, receiving visitors from all over the world. It’s great business for the village.
