Clares Forest Walks
The Open Forest
The Forest and Wildlife Service has developed over 400 forest areas in Ireland and made them accessible to visitors. Many of these contain nature trails, sign-posted walks, viewing points, picnic sites and car parking facilities.

Baile Uí Chogaráin 3 km north of Killaloe on R463 (L12) to Tuamgraney. Lay-by, picnic site, forest walks, viewing point, hill climb to Slieve Bernagh.

An Baile Caol 1.5 km north of Kilfenora on R476 (L53) to Lisdoonvarna. Lay-by, forest walks.

Cathair Mhurchú Adjacent to Flagmount village on shores of Lough Graney. Lakeshore picnic site, forest and mountain walks.

Cratloe/Woodcock Hill:
An Chreatalach Adjacent to Cratloe village. Picnic site, forest walks.

Coilleán, 2 km west of Tulla on 3rd class road to Fair Green. Turn left for 5 km on 3rd class road.
Lakeshore picnic site, forest walks, ruins of Cullane House.

An Dún 3 km north west of Broadford off R466 (L31) to Tulla. Lay-by, lakeshore picnic site, forest walks.

Drimmeen/Violet Hill:
An Droimín 1.5 km north of Broadford on R465 (L12A) to Bodyke. On right hand side of road. Forest walks.

Drom Ólainn 2 km north of Newmarket-on-Fergus on N18 (T11) to Ennuis Picnic site, forest walks, access to Mooghaun Fort.

Drom Mór 3 km west of Crusheen on 3rd class road. Lakeshore picnic site, forest walks, access to Dromore Castle.

Gallows Hill:
Cnoc na Croiche 2 km north of Cratloe off N18 (T11) to Ennis. Picnic site, forest walks, viewing point.

Gragan's Wood:
Coill na nGrágán 8 km north-east of Lisdoonvarna on N67 (T69) to Ballyvaughan. Lay-by, picnic site, forest walks, viewing points.

Cill Rois 1 km east of Kilrush on N67 (T41) to Killimer. Picnic site, forest walks.

Lough Atorick:
Loch an Tóraic 9.5 km south-west of Woodford on 3rd class road to Feakle. (On Galway - Clare border).
Lay-by overlooking Lough Atorick forest and mountain walks, scenic views.

Scailp na nGabhann 11 km north of Tulla on R462 (L11) to Gort Lay-by, forest and mountain walks, viewing point.
