BSc (Accounting) Degree

CAO Code: CK202
Duration: 3 Years

AIMS
The programme gives a headstart to students considering a career as professional accountants, whether in industry or pivate practice. Due to the focused nature of the degree, graduates qualify for a more extensive range of exemptions from the professional accounting bodies than available to other business or commerce graduates. These exemptions have proved important to employers in selecting graduate recruits.

An overview of the programme of study is given in Table 3.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES (page 2 of 2)
Secondly, the value of the skills developed during the training period as a professional accountant is recog- nised in an increasing number of positions outside traditional accounting roles. Experience in analysis, investigation and organisation of information is vital to a range of business activities. A background in accounting is also seen as an invaluable asset in many business areas outside accounting. Many qualified accountants successfully rise to positions in general management or become involved in areas other than accountancy.

All subjects are taught on the assumption that students have no prior computing or business knowledge. Honours Mathematics in the Leaving Certificate is not a requirement.
