Family Fun Day

Science week Ireland 2001 was celebrated in Killarney with two very busy Family Fun Days at the National Park Education Centre, in Knockreer House. The Fun Days (on Sundays 11th and 18th November) were attended by more than 340 people, from as far a field as Kilgarvan, Ballyvourney and Mallow.

Exhibitions on Ireland's wildlife, woodlands and bats were on display, and visitors also investigated a freshwater aquarium, a wormery and looked at insects under the microscope! Chris Barron, the Park Education Officer, gave a slide show on the ecology of the National Park.

Thirty teams entered into the Ecological Orienteering competition. Congratulations to the winners of the competition! They were presented with wildlife goodies including the book 'Killarney National Park: A Place to Treasure' by local ecologist, Bill Quirke. The prizes were generously sponsored by the Trustees of Muckross House.

The winners are pictured here with Education Officer, Chris Barron - Elbel Family, Killarney ;Mulcahy Family, Killarney & Lavery family, Muckross.
