Newton's First Law of Motion (2)

Experiment: "An object at rest (or in motion) stays at rest (or in motion) unless a force acts upon it."

    Materials:

    You will need:

    1 x 1c or 2c coin
1 film canister (or other similar sized container)
    1 x 2cm (width) strip of card
    Sellotape

    Method:

    What you have to do:

    1) Take the strip of card and join the ends together to make a ring.

    2) Place the ring of card on top of the film canister.

    3) Place the coin on top of the card ring.

    4) Put your finger/pen through the ring and sharply pull the card to the left or right.

Result: The coin drops into the film canister.

Conclusion: When the card is moved, the coin is suspended in the air for a millisecond until gravity takes over.
