ENV 4 Dear Parent, As you are aware, Lorraine Murphy (of Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council) assessed our school last Tuesday to check if Green Flag status had been reached. We have been working very hard towards this end and were thrilled on our success – the award will be made at the offices of An Taisce sometime in March. The Green Committee were put through their paces for about half an hour, before a visit was made to each class. We were delighted with the enthusiasm of the children and the way in which they responded to Lorraine. There are six other schools in the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown area that have Green Flags and we will be the seventh. We have resolved to not only maintain our present status, but to become even greener!! We are very grateful to you for the terrific support and encouragement that we have received from the beginning. Thank you to those who have offered to join a rota and take our recyclable materials to Dun Laoghaire ‘Bring Centre’ even though a returnable slip was not included with our last letter – I was over-enthusiastic to get it to you and I apologise for this omission. There is a returnable slip at the end of this letter!! Finally, Lorraine mentioned that tetra packs are now accepted in all domestic green bins – so milk cartons, etc. (washed and squashed) can be recycled. Sadly, it all has to be exported, as recycling facilities do not exist here. Thank you so much for your support, Yours sincerely,
James
