The Trachoma infection scars the underside of your
eyelids which causes them to turn in and causes the eyelashes to scrap the surface of the cornea which
can lead to corneal inflammation and infection resulting in blindness. Chlamydia infection is responsible for Trachoma. Trachoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world and is seen in Third World and developing nations. Chlamydia is transmitted through the sharing of items such as pillowcases and towels and from poor hygiene. Trachoma is very highly contagious and affects millions of people worldwide.
Amblyopia, or lazy eye is a eye problem that affects only 2 - 3 percent of the population. If the problem goes untreated, it can lead to blindness in the infected eye. Even though the amblyopic eye is capable of seeing the brain turns off the eye because the vision is blurred.
Amblyopia normally develops in young children before age 6.
If a child has developed Amblyopia they may squint or completely
close one eye in order to see.
Trauma to the eye at any age can cause Amblyopia.
If Amblyopia is not treated early enough the brain may learn to entirely ignore the vision in the affected eye. Sometimes the person treating you will put a patch over the stronger eye to teach the weaker eye to see.
Amblyopia will not go away on it's own or untreated.
