Match Report : 5th and 6th Class Girls V Guardian Angels Primary School

On a bright and sunny Tuesday afternoon at the end of October two teams of girls from 5th and 6th class played matches against the girls from Guardian Angels. All players did themselves and their coaches proud.

Team 1 won 5-0 with all of the goals coming from the two goal-seeking forwards - Holly (3) and Katie (2). They were ably supported by a hard-working mid-field made up of Sophie, Rebecca and Lucy. The strong defence which ensured that no goals were conceded was made up of Jenny (Capt) and Ciara. Christina succeeded in keeping a clean sheet for her first match in goals.

Team 2 won 4-2 with great goals being scored by Ella (2), Lily and Megan. The very capable forwards (Emma and Ella) were supported by a mid-field of Megan, Lily and Siobhra while the back three of Laura (Capt), Astrid and Nicole had to work really hard to keep the forwards from Guardian Angels from scoring.

    Kill Super Girls !!

Well done to the girls league team on playing two very closely fought matches against Wyvern National School and St. Patricks National School, Greystones !!!!

In both matches the girls were very narrowly beaten 2-1 but hats off to Amy in goals for keeping the ball out on other occasions !! Well done to Ciara, Jenny, Lucy and Laura from 6th class and also to Holly, Katie, Sophie, Rebecca and Emma from 5th class !!!

Well done girls - no more league matches until after Christmas !

    Match Report Boys League Team

Well done to our Boys League Team captained by Josh Percival who played amazing hockey to beat St. Killians B Team an astonishing 8 – 0 !!!!!!!!!!!

The boys were warmed up and given their “pep talk” by Olwen (Super Coach !) and were hardly five minutes on the pitch when Gavin B scored a cracker ! This was closely followed by a super goal from John. Within no time Jonah, who himself had a number of great shots at goal passed a super ball to Robbie who slotted it into the back of the net !!!!! The mums and dads on the side lines were going bananas !

Gavin scored another goal after a bit of mayhem in the circle and then Chris got number 5 from the top of the ‘D’.

Meanwhile our extremely strong backs Gary, Ben and Sam let nothing past them and Josh commanded things from his sweeper position.

After half-time Fionn replaced John and Jack replaced Chris and both contributed hugely to two goals from Josh (who had moved up to centre mid instead of Gavin) and another goal from Chris. There was plenty of subbing on and off to give everyone a good run.

What an impressive start to the League hope it continues !!!!!

    WELL DONE EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Match Report Boys League Team - vs St. Gerard's

Well done to our Boys League Team on another STUNNING performance in their second league outing this season.  The squad of 13 headed to St. Gerard’s in Bray on Tuesday 27th November and went 2 better than their previous match by winning by an amazing 10 goals to 0!!!

With Olwen away Diane took charge of the warm up and team talk and whatever she said worked wonders……….

The goal rush started in the first minute with a super shot from Gavin which was quickly followed by our second goal when Jonah’s shot put us 2 up within the first 2 minutes!  The team put on a wonderful display of skill and team work, though the defense was rarely called on Gary, Sam, Ben and Josh ably dealt with anything that came their way and encouraged their team mates throughout.

St. Gerard’s fought admirably but were unable to stop the flow of goals.  Chris scored 2, Gavin hit the back board with his second and Andrew and John C all got on the score sheet before half time.  Kill went into the break with a 7 – 0 lead!!!

At half time Diane mixed the team around bringing on Finn and Jack and moving the defense into attack and giving the forwards a chance to hone their defensive skills!!

The guys settled into their new roles really well and it’s a testament to Olwen’s training and inspiration that even with the changes and subs rolling on and off that the boys didn’t lose their focus.  This was demonstrated in the second half when Robbie opened the second half scoring with a well taken goal, which was followed by two very impressive goals by Sam bringing the Kill goal tally to 10!!!

The mums and dads on the side lines were ecstatic but tried not to show it!!!!

A special word of mention goes to Omar – two outings and yet to touch the ball!!  I’m sure Taney will make sure you’re kept busy in the next game!!

Well done EVERYONE on another MAGNIFICENT performance.

    Mixed League Team

The Mixed League Team have now played two matches and are playing great hockey !!!

They were narrowly beaten by St Andrews National School Bray 0 – 1 but played their hearts out under the captaincy of Gavin M !!  Well done everyone and especially good on the day were Robert M, Cian, Gavin M and Joshua T in goals !!

Issac and Matthew also provided great support as did Lily, Ella, Emma and Siobhra !.  Super subs Nicole, Hayley and Megan showed great promise and worked hard to keep the score at just one goal done.

The Mixed Team then took on Rathgar Junior School at Rathdown last Friday evening and this time won  1 – 0 after a super game with everyone playing great !!

Issac scored the winning goal but it was a team effort on the night so well done everyone !!!!!!!

    Hockey League  Update

Feel the fear ……and do it anyway!!

Wow, what a match!! On Friday 14th December Kill ‘O the Grange boys took on Taney B’s at our home grounds, Rathdown School. The feeling beforehand was that they would be facing formidable opponents and the pre-match nerves were evident! However persistence paid and they did brilliantly!

In the first half, the pressure was on and the “Ooohs”  , “Aaahs” and groans coming from the chilled spectators said it all. Great team play by our boys, with everyone contributing to the relentless pressure on Taney. Fantastic performance by all the boys, Robbie, Gavin B.,, Jack, Ben, Josh P. Chris, Sam, Jonah, Gary …..Most of the play for this half was in Taney’s half of the pitch and Kill kept up the pressure on the opposition’s defence and their goalie. It has to be said that Taney put up a great defence and particular credit goes to their goalie who really excelled.

However, the play in the second half proved decisive, and the rewards were sweet! Shortly into it, the first Kill goal was scored by John C, swiftly followed by another from Fionn F. Not to be outdone, a safe win was obtained by another beaut from Andrew F ! Plenty of support from the rest of the team enabled our win! Way to go boys!

Thanks are due to Kill for providing new goalie gear this term, as Omar will say, the protection is good for more than the ball!! Pretty good defence against the bitter temperatures too!. He has now managed a hat trick… three matches in a row with no need to make contact with the ball!

So a very respectable 3:0 victory to Kill!

Well done boys and keep it up!!

    Report for Boys Hockey Match

Kill O’ the Grange   vs   Rathmichael

     4th February 2008

Team: (in no particular order!) Omar in goals, John, Ben, Sam, Gary, Gavin, Jonah, Andrew, Jack, Robbie Christopher, with Josh and Fionn as subs.

Venue: White Rock pitch in Rathfarnham

Weather conditions: Yes, the usual rather severe windchill factor in play again!!!

At 3.30 the boys set off on what they were sure would be a tough challenge. Indeed the match started off with both teams playing well. Rathmichael had a few good chances but were kept at bay by some great defending by Kill boys. John the sweeper did an excellent job of keeping the defence in order.

Half time came and went with still no score! Panic! Some quick thinking and strategy changes from Olwen and off they went for round two ! Immediately into the second half the pace stepped up. Kill really found more speed and skill. All played very well and Josh came on and made some great moves to save their bacon! Gary also played brilliantly, and Omar had to rev up and defend his goal, and even made contact with the ball! However he continues with his record – no goals let in for 5 matches now! Way to go!

Despair was setting in as the second half drew to a close with no score, when suddenly Fionn pulled a blinder and scored!! 1-0 to Kill!

What a tough game! Well done lads and thanks for the great support and advice from the best coach Olwen…not to  mention the great cheering from the side line….

    Until the next one…………!

Kill o’ the Grange – Boys have a blast at hockey Tournament.

Spring arrived on Thursday afternoon 7th February in time for the fantastic hockey tournament in which Kill of the Grange Boys/girls took part in at St. Andrews College.

For the boys with three games to play it was a chance to show off the great skills and speed starting with a fast game. It was two one to St Killian’s with a great goal scored by   Robert getting past three players at one stage to score.

With time to catch breath a second match was a win, 2 nil against Aravon. With great support on the sides and wing from Alistair and Stephen, Conor was able to score two goals.

The third match after a bit of chocolate to keep them going saw a one-all draw with Eoin setting up the goal for Conor. Some nice passing and running from Aidan and Niall.

But unfortunately St. Bridget’s were able to equalise.  Not before great tackling from Andrew.

Thanks to Julie for keeping them together and keeping us all in sweets, to Ivan who came along to urge them on with the Mums and Dads, not forgetting the brothers and sisters who did a great job of collecting mud!

Team: Conor, Stephen, Eoin, Aidan, Robert, Andrew, Niall, Alistair,

    4th Class Girls Hockey Tournament

    St Andrews College

The fourth Class tournament was held on Thursday 7th February in St Andrews College.  The girls hockey team left Kill at 1.00pm and arrived at the pitches in St Andrews College excited and full of enthusiasm. The members of the girls' team were Laura (Captain), Nicola, Hannah, Hope, Rachel, Danielle, Stephanie and Jenny.

The first game was against Taney N.S. and having held them in the first half, sadly the opposition scored twice to win 2-0. We did better in the second match against St Gerards. The girls played brilliantly and the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Next we played Whitechurch, who unfortunately also proved too strong, the score 2-0. In our final game we achieved victory beating Wyvern 1-0 a super goal scored by Laura, to end a most enjoyable sunny afternoon of sport.

It was lovely to see so many Kill parents on the side-line cheering the girls on.

Well done to the girls and their captain Laura.

HOCKEY MATCH….. KILL V’S ARAVON.. UCD 20TH FEB

    Team: Gavin B (Capt.), Christopher W, John C, Jonah B, Fionn F, Jack L, Robbie B,

    Andrew F, Gary F, Omar A K , Ben A, Sam G Josh P

encouraged and practised positive thinking from the sidelines!!

Kill Senior Boys hockey team played Aravon at UCD hockey grounds on 20TH February in a vital league match. Aravon got into their stride very quickly and banged in a goal in the third minute, this galvanised the Kill team who launched wave after wave of attacks on the Aravon goal. They finally got their reward with a great goal from Andrew followed not long afterwards by Chris getting the ball past the keeper for another cracker of a goal. The first 25 minutes were played mainly in the Aravon half leaving Omar with little to do but even though Kill kept up the pressure the half time score remained at 2 -1 to Kill.

The Kill boys rested slightly on their laurels for much of the second half with play concentrated in the centre of the pitch however an attack involving great play by the forwards resulted in Andrew getting his second goal of the game. The last five minutes were really exciting as both sides launched attacks, Kill defence (Especially John C) held out and the forwards took their chance. A corner was awarded to Kill and with the last hit of the game John C shot the ball into the net to make the final score:

    Kill 4 Aravon 1.

Needless to say the vociferous support from Mums, Dads, grannies & granddads’ on the sidelines played no small part in the Kill victory. Olwen & the boys go from strength to strength!

    Mixed Hockey League Match

Kill O the Grange V’S St Brigids & All Saints

Friday 7th March 2008 at St Raphael’s Stillorgan

     John W (Capt), Christina F, Joshua P, Cian F, Tom K, Matthew S, Matthew P, Robert M, Alex B. K, Astrid T, Megan O’K, Isaac H, Gavin M.

Well once again, another mixed league match valiantly played in brass monkey weather, brrrrrrrrrr!

Snuggled up in warm sweaters, hats, gloves etc, we watched in eager anticipation the aforementioned match.

Despite, the cold weather, the kids from Kill (and the opposing team) got stuck in and with great enthusiasm and determination played a good match right up to the end.

The captain, John W led the way and kept up a great pace the whole way through.  Robert M played well as sweep defending off any would be goal from the opposition.  Christina F was super in defence and worked very hard throughout the match.

Josh T was super in goal and well protected not only from any balls but also well layered from the weather conditions.  At one stage the Kill team nearly scored their first goal, courtesy of Gavin M and later on in the match, a second attempt by Alex B.K.  Bad luck Gavin.

What a close one!  In the first half there were several attempts from Kill players to score Alas……..the ball just went wide.

Cian F played a super centre mid.  Tom K worked well as left back.  It was an enjoyable match even though it was a scoreless one but it certainly wasn’t from a lack of trying!   Alex B. K. made several gallant attempts to score as centre back.  Astrid T played a valiant right mid. Megan O’K showed great talent in mid defence.

Isaac H got a couple of good attempts holding possession of the ball and was very adept at passing it on.  Matthew P passed well to Alex B.K. who nearly scored a goal.  Tom K was in there as left back and was replaced by Matthew S in the last few minutes of the match.

All in all, when the final whistle blew, and although no score, it was a good match! And the supporters on the sidelines withstood the cold without grumbling and cheered on all the way!

    Thank you

     Hockey Club update…

Well ………………10 of the boy’s league team enjoyed an afternoon in Three Rock Rovers home grounds on the 23rd April...

The occasion was “The Jenny Robinson Tournament”...

This 8 –a-side Tournament was held in memory of Jenny Robinson …

Many of us knew Jenny personally. She tragically died last year after a long battle against cancer...

For those of you who didn’t know Jenny she was a wonderful lady, a loving wife & Mum….After her family her passion was hockey & in particular to the under 12s. She taught all levels at various stages through her life and particularly loved teaching the younger ones & she dedicated hours of her time to doing just this …

Her husband and children who are all just a passionate about their hockey wanted to run this tournament in her memory and it will be an annual event for both boys & girls under 12s

The day ran smoothly under SHARON COLE’S watchful eye……she had us all….. Kids and adults organised!

The sun shone and it was a really great afternoon.

There were 16 teams participating……Some of whom we had played before ……..some not...

Kill squad in no particular order was:

    Omar A-K, Robbie B, Gary F, Josh P,  John C,Gavin B ,Fionn F, Jack L , Chris W &Andrew F., Chris & Andrew F,

,Our Kill team did fantastically in their group, beating Taney, All Saints/Bridget’s and St Patrick’s .Olwen did her side line encouraging and coaching!! The matches were very exciting and some very close too! Not good for the nerves on the side line!! As Omar said at one stage he got the most play of the ball he had had this season!!

Having won the group out right we went on to the semi final where we played White Church. Sadly this was not to be our game but we stayed on to be part of the atmosphere and watched the final between White Church and Delgany, Both teams were made up of kids our guys would have known from various hockey through out the year so it led to a very exciting Final!

Delgany won which was fantastic for Sharon after all her hard work!

The prize giving was lovely and both winning team and runners up were awarded medals& there was a cup for the winners to take home for the year …

A big thank you to the Robinsons ……To Sharon... & to all those who gave up their time to make the afternoon work so well...

Thank you to all the Mums and Dads & kids who came and supported the team, we missed Diane , she was away but with us in spirit and by text! Thanks to Christina F for being our photographer for the day too...

Annabelle our 6th class student came along too and spent her time running between matches Kill and supporting Wyvern!

     Great day boys… Well done!
