KPMG FC 2 – 0 Bosman Celtic

Was the fact that KPMG played their best football in a long time or was it that Barthez’s dad made a return to the sidelines this week? If I were a gambling man I would put it down to the fact that the team was more organised and hungry for the victory.

The link up play between Vince Inzaghi and Tony Zidane was breath taking to watch. The KPMG players were not playing hurried football but they attacked the Bosman goal with patience. The early chances fell to KPMG with Tony Lyons firing a shot from the edge of the area only to see it sail over the Bosman crossbar.

With A new player down the right side this week, John, he added with and grace to the KPMG attack. His trickery and pace down the wing left him space to create crosses that were of the quality once seen by the Original CAYman.

Another chance came for KPMG as the ball was threaded through to Thomas Hegarty but the Bosman keeper was in sparkling form and parried the ball out for a corner. A few more long-range efforts were all that KPMG could muster up in the first half and went in at half time on even terms with their opponents. KPMG, on performance and hunger deserved to be leading at the break, but that’s football.

The second half started much like the first with KPMG having plenty of the ball and it was Vince who saw his shot blaze just wide of the Bosman goal. The breakthrough came just minutes after. A patient built up saw Hega play a sublime pass to the feet of Lyons. Lyons drove forward and saw that Thomas had shaken off his marker. Lyons crossed the ball in to the danger area where Thomas, with precision, fired the ball past the outstretched Bosman keeper. It was a deserved goal, and raised the confidence of KPMG to even greater heights.

Bosman didn’t have many chances in the first half except from corners. Dazza, Tango, Decky and Skinny dealt these with in a workman like fashion. The back four made sure that there wasn’t going to be an equalizer.

The built up for the second goal was one you would expect to see on the turf of Old Trafford. Hega played the ball from from midfield into the path of Vince. With Lyons to his right he passed with finesse to his playing partner. After long term absence from the squad Ronan Murphy made a welcome return to the team. Lyons played Ronan in down the right. About to be tackled, Ronan lifted the ball over Bosman defender and into the danger area. Brendan Hegarty latched on to the ball first time, to rifle a shot passed the Bosman keeper and in to the back of the net.

Bosman didn’t give up and caused Barthez to make a few easy saves from free kicks. With minutes to go Bosman were given a free kick just outside the KPMG area. This was due to Hega’s constant fondling of the opposition. With the wall in place and Dazza on the line the ball was blasted over the wall. Gregson stretched and tipped the ball wide for a corner. Such was the confidence of the KPMG squad the defender gave out to the legend that is Barthez as he was the one who wanted the prise from his team-mates for keeper the lead to two.

All in all a very enjoyable game for the four spectators and a joy to play in. Lets just hope that KPMG can play with this kind of patience and control in future games.
