KPMG FC 3 – 2 Garvaghey
Twas
the night before Christmas… no wait that’s wrong… twas the morning before
Sunday night and all was well in the KPMG camp except that they had only 9
men. It wasn’t Christmas but sure as hell a miracle did happen this brisk Sunday
morning. All was to play for in this game. Could Garvaghey win the group or
could KPMG sneak into second place? Because they were late turning up KPMG got a goal conceded before the
game. Garvaghey who with two extra players really did carve their way through
the KPMG midfield, naturally, dominated the early possession. With pressure
and dominance Garvaghey had plenty of opportunities to score goals, but with
only long-range efforts on goal they weren’t going to beat Barthez. The first goal of the game was a typical Tom the Tank goal. Like an
egg he “poached” around the penalty area, let me correct that the goal line
of his opponents as he claimed he picked up a knock in the previous game. A
beautiful ball was played into the area by I am not sure but the control from
Tom the Tank was exceptional. With confidence and grace he controlled the low
flighted cross with his left foot and in one foul swoop blasted the ball past
the Garvaghey keeper. That goal
brought he two teams level, quite to the amusement and disbelief of the KPMG
players. The defending for the Garvaghey goal was somewhat questionable as the
Garvaghey attackers made simple work of creating an opening. Simple one-twos
were all that were needed and when the ball was played through the middle the
Garvaghey attacker caught the ball on the half volley. The result…. the lead
as the ball crashed passed Barthez. Midway through the first half the man upstairs must of heard the
prayers of the KPMG supporters, oh hang on there was none, so he must of done
it out of goodwill. A certain Jim asked us were we in need of some help and
Hega said we were. Within minutes KPMG had an extra player. KPMG hadn’t had
him playing for them all season but he was sure to be a help to the
side….wasn’t he? He was of course. This Messiah like man except for having
hardly any hair, no beard and also being small and a bit tubby, Jim was the
God send we had all been waiting for. He came on and immediately had an impact on the game. That’s right he was
superb………..at losing possession but the KPMG faithfuls knew that the extra
man was here for another reason. The half time whistle blew and the KPMG camp
were confidant they could over come the goal deficit. Why was this because
they were now to have eleven players? How was this I hear you ask? Because
little Martin came on for the second half. The second half started in good form for the KPMG side. With good
patient build-ups they created more chances and really should have taken
these but their luck was out. The breakthrough finally came when Jim received
the ball on the touchline. With one look up he floated a beautiful ball into
the path of Tomas The Tank. Tom who in on cloud nine with his form in recent
games wasn’t going to miss this opportunity. And he duly smashed the ball
into the back of the net and also join the Huggie Bear on top of the goals
list. Both have 8 goals but Tom is in a rich vain of form. With very few
games left who will come out the victor? This was the equalizer and KPMG thought that if they held on to this
result it would be a great result for them but that didn’t happen. KPMG
forced a corner late on in the second half and with Martin running over to
the ball he was duly and abruptly stopped by his fellow teammates. This wasn’t
out of disrespect but they knew Ronan Murphy could supply a great ball. With
his right boot Murphy floated a ball into the danger area. As I mentioned earlier we had a Messiah come on for the team. The team
also had a Judas on its team. A one Danny but instead of being the traitor on
this occasion he rose to the occasion and with a bullet of a header rattled
the ball into the top corner of the net. The KPMG camp went ballistic as they
had beaten the Garvaghey men with an under strength side. To sum the tournament up for KPMG I must say that although a few
influential players were missing from the side the spirit and character was
what got them into the second spot. The team didn’t take everything very
seriously and went out and had fun and I believe if the side played with a
bit more enjoyment they may win more games. |
