KPMG FC 1 – 1 FLG’s

This game had a feel of last season about it for the first time during the current campaign. With all the regulars back for KPMG including the influential Mr Gregson. His presence on the sidelines helps relax the KPMG team who may have been a bit edgy after last week’s 5-0 thrashing.

The first chance on the game fell to FLG’s as they pushed forward with grit and determination. The ball was played between full back and left back and with a right footed effort the FLG striker could only play in into Gregson’s hands.

KPMG pressed on and had their fair number of chances early on. The first of these was from Paulo Kennedy whose trickery always fools the opposition. With a shot from the edge of the area the FLG keeper had it covered. A second chance for FLG’s produced the opening goal of the game.

The ball was played over the top of the KPMG defense whose off side trap didn’t go according to plan this time, well according to the referee they didn’t. The ball was cleared for a corner by Decky and this was the first real chance FLG’s had on goal. The ball was swung into the penalty area and found the head of the FLG striker. With technique that any player would be proud of he glanced the ball into the corner of the net. KPMG know they were up against a technical side now (hoof the ball up field and hope the big guy gets a head on it).

KPMG’s next chance came from the unlikeliest source. The ball dropped outside the area and who was there to rifle a shot towards goal? None other that Tango. With a blazing effort he saw his shot tipped onto the crossbar by the FLG keeper. Agony for KPMG, agony for Tango.

KPMG finally got back on level terms through a bit of good fortune. The ball was played to the feet of Lyons. To his left he saw Vince unmarked. With a great first touch Vince set himself up for a shot. With the right boot he zipped one towards goal. The ball took a horrific deflection and crept into the bottom corner of the goal much to the disgust of the FLG players.

The second half started much brighter for KPMG who played with a bit more aggression. They began to break down the FLG defense only to have their efforts accumulate to near misses. The first of these came from a corner midway through the second half. Lyons drilled the ball in low. With the forwards making great movement in the danger area, they ad the FLG defense confused. The ball dropped in front of goal and the FLG keeper superbly stopped the shot.

The last chance of the game fell to Hughy Courtney. Picking the ball outside the FLG penalty area The Bear looped a shot towards the top right hand corner. The ball was hit too high though. It dipped and cascaded off the bar and over for a goal kick.

In the end a game that KPMG felt they deserved to win but the performance was the best so far this season. If they can keep this level of play throughout the season the “Office Bhoys” could be looking at possible silverware once again.
