KPMG FC 0 – 1 Woodies Wanderers Andy Gray would
surely have had a lot to say about this game. The missed chances, the brawls
and KPMG’s miraculous defeat. With the winds blowing furiously and the temperature
of an Arctic glacier the match of KPMG versus Woodies was eventful to say the
least. The accountants
dominated the possession for the whole game. And being accountants they could
surely see at the end of the game that one goal was greater than no
goals. The first chance of the game
fell to Cossie. With his quick feet and confidence he rifled a shot that saw
the ball go whiskers wide of the left hand upright. With trickery
not seen since the days of Pelé, Briano weaved his magic, not with a wand,
but with the feet God gave him. He glanced through the Woodies midfield from
the right wing and just as he was to unleash a rocket of a shot he was
brought down 25 yards from the Woodies goal. With four in the wall it was
going to be tough to get the ball on target. But then this is Cossie we’re
talking about. With a left foot to match Ryan Giggs he thundered the ball
towards the left corner of the net. But to his disbelief the Woodies keeper
parried the ball out for a corner ball. Woodies first
chance of the game came from nothing. The ball was played to the defender
from the goalie. He played it through midfield and with great one touch
football split the KPMG defence. With only Barthez to beat the Woodies
forward hammered a shot into the roof of the net. After the game Barthez felt
as though his mistake cost them the game but like a true professional won’t
let it dent his confidence. The real action
came by the corner flag in KPMG’s half. The one they call Tango was bundled
to the floor by the Woodies striker. Not liking being Tango’d, Tango started
what is now know as “The Clash Up In Ash(ton)”. Punches were flying in from
all angles, angles that would have baffled Pythagoras. The brawl was soon
ended but one feels Tango got the best hits in. (see animation below) (blood introduced merely for
entertainment purposes) The best chance
for KPMG came in the first half. The countered the Woodies attack with skill and
poise. Tony Horse made a terrific run down the right wing and with KPMG in
possession the ball was slotted to the feet of Lyons. One on one with the
keeper all Lyons had to do was slot it home for the equaliser. One might say
he had too much time because just as he was about to pull the trigger the
Woodies defender got a challenge in and Lyons ended up on the floor with a
red glow on his cheeks that would have made Rudolf’s nose look some what
normal. The second half
started pretty much the same as the first with KPMG dominating the possession
from the kick off. KPMG created the first opportunity of the game when Cossie
let a shot rip from 20 yards. The ball flew inches wide of the post and out
for a goal kick. The chances from
here on in were few and far between for both sides with most of the game
battled in midfield. KPMG created good movement down both wings but the final
ball was one of disappointment in the second half. KPMG just didn’t
have the numbers charging into the box to latch on to one of Briano’s or Cossies
crosses. The final whistle eventually blew and KPMG felt disgusted not to
come away with a win let alone a draw. It’s been a disappointing start to the
season for KPMG but things can only get better. |
