KPMG FC 6 – 1 MA Com

The side laying tonight had a familiar look to that of last season’s. With Tony and Hughie back from injury the side had the flowing movement and an attacking feel to it.

The game started well for KPMG as they pressed forward for the early goal. Quick movement down the left saw Brendan shake off the defender. Looking up he spotted Hughie free in the centre of the pitch. Twisting and turning, he sent the defence around in circles. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted Kennedy making one of his trademark runs.

With an inch perfect pass he played the ball into the danger area. Briano, first time, fired a shot towards goal. With pace and accuracy the ball flew into the back of the net. An early lead for the “Office Bhoys” and a great early confidence booster.

The Bhoys defending in tonights match was good but a bit shaky at times. Relying heavily on the off side trap will have its comeuppance, later rather than sooner. With good play down the right side MA Com forced a corner. The corner was floated in beautifully. Barthez went to punch the ball clear from danger but was CLEARLY fouled and pushed to the floor. The ball went over his head and was put away with the greatest of ease by the MA Com striker.

The first half ended on a fiery note as the Horse and The Bear continued to view their opinions to each other. Lets just say that complements weren’t being dished out.

The second half started brightly again for the KPMG lads but they did have the fear of the same thing happening as did in the last few games. That is that the opposition’s only shots on target resulted in goals. Does this say much for Barthez? No but who else on the team can take as much abuse as he does?

KPMG won a free kick just outside the area and with the likes of Cossie, Lyons and Philip around the possibility of scoring a goal are always likely. Lyons bent the ball up and over the wall that left the MA Com keeper a routine catch. But instead of catching the ball he parried it straight to the feet of Courtney. Internationals don’t miss from this range although you could check match against AIB.

Lyons was once again the playmaker for the third goal. His dominance down the right wing was evident from the start. He spotted his fellow Kerryonian making a run from midfield. With the Midas touch he played a cracker to the feet of Cossie. One look at goal and Cossie pulled the trigger. The shot flew into the right hand side of the goal, leaving the MA Com keeper no chance in hell at getting a hand to it.

You would think that being three one up, KPMG would take the foot off the gas? But no. They pushed forward with determination. The ball fell to Phillip who was a good 35 yards from goal. He launched the ball into the danger area. But with all KPMG’s bad luck in recent weeks they had a bit of good fortune on this occasion. The ball took a slight deflection off the MA Com defender and flew over the out coming keeper. Four – One and KPMG were hungry for more.

To be honest with you, I can’t remember the fifth goal but it was credited to Cossie. The sixth and final goal of the game was all about the Hegarty’s. Tom picked the ball up in the left corner and with the power of Emile Heskey and skill of a 5 year old, he barged his way through. He played the ball across the face of the goal. The keeper looked to have it saved but Brendan got a toe to it and steered it around the keeper. With the easiest of finishes, Brendan gets off the mark, with his first goal of the season.

Confidene is now sky high on the fourth floor of the South Mall office and so it should be. The best football they have every played has been produced in the last five weeks but the team has only won two of these games. Is the standard getting higher or is it because of Barthez’s mistakes. I think you’ll find it’s not the latter.
