KPMG FC 1 – 1 Proscon Celtic

With only 10 men KPMG went out in the first half with the courage and determination of Russell Crowe as he stepped out into the Amphitheatre.

The first chance of the game fell to Proscon. Their hard work paid off as they were awarded a corner early on. The outstretched arm of Barthez dealt with the out-swinging cross but it fell to the outside of the box where Proscon couldn’t capitalise on the wondering keeper.

The pressure was really on the KPMG midfield whom were ball watching a lot in the first half but to the defences credit they rescued the midfields embarrassment on more than one occasion. Proscon’s second chance came to from a free kick. The free was badly dealt with by the KPMG defenders and midfield. The offside trap was made to look like an under 8 offside trap as the Proscon forwards pushed forward. A quick shot by the attacker was put over the bar much to the disgust of his fellow teammates.

The second half started much brightly than the first with KPMG getting the possession early on. This may be due to the teams’ hard work or maybe it’s because they centred. A puzzle that may never be solved. Their attacking play should have paid off when a chance was created in Proscons area. The ball must have been on the goal line for at least half a minute but the KPMG shooting boots were left in the office.

A defensive error down the left was one of the causes of Proscons opener. The midfielder made a darting run from inside his own area to latch on to a ball played over the top. He came inside and blasted a shot from 15 yards. Gregson, expecting a cross was left scrambling to the near post to see the ball fly into the back of the net. Being beaten on the front post is one of the errors you are punished for when training at keeper school. After the game Gregson was seen checking himself in to a psychiatrist to help get over the trauma.

KPMG finally got the breakthrough they richly deserved. In the final minute of the game KPMG pushed further knowing from last weeks game that it wasn’t over until the referee blew that silver whistle. Prior to the game the team must have been given Duracell Extra Life because their energy levels didn’t dwindle a bit during the whole 60 minutes. KPMG forced a corner, which proved to be very costly on Proscon Celtics behalf. An in-swinging ball from Christy was headed away by the Proscon defence. Tony Lyon’s grit and mental toughness made him sprint for the ball. He played a beauty to the feet of Christian. He played a Beckhamesque ball to the danger area. Posh will sure have a bonus for him afterwards. The ball fell at the perfect height for the “Huggy Bear”, Hugh Courtney, whose glancing header would have beaten the worlds best.

A game played in Great Spirit and the result was one that both teams deserved. Two points should help KPMG FC close the gap on league leaders Mac B FC.
