KPMG FC 1 – 0 Rochestown Park Hotel
The
team sheet looked somewhat different this week as we had a new addition to
the team. The new additions name is Thomas. Also the defence were weakened by
the injury to Vincent, whose bruised ribs forced him out of action but the
return of Barr meant “continuous shouting” during the game like Barthez early
season. The
game started brightly for KPMG who were the more aggressive in the opening
minutes. Good football and determination was the cause of KPMG’s goal. Hega’s
skill and unselfishness created the chance as he played a perfectly weighted
pass into the feet of Huggie Courtney. Hugh,
whose experience on the big stage, side stepped the ball like Graeme Sharpe
in the mid 80’s. He glanced round the keeper, who looked a bit out of place
between the sticks, to slot home the opener and deciding goal of the game. It
is clear to see from his coolness under the immense pressure why he has 6
caps for the KPMG Ireland squad under his belt. That goal now puts Hugh on
top of the goal scoring leader board with 6 goals. Some say scoring for Hugh
is hard off the pitch but it doesn’t show on the field. Rochestown
may count themselves unfortunate to not draw level mid way through the second
half. As a cross came in from the left the tall Rochestown forward glanced a
header over the outstretched KPMG keeper. But as Andy Gray would say, “A
player on the post is a must” proved only to well for KPMG as Conor O’ Mahony
cleared the ball off the line to the praise of his fellow teammates. A
few more chances went a begging for Rochestown who had most of the ball in
the second period of the first half. The first chance of the second half fell
for Tony Lyons. Juggling the ball past defenders, Le Tissier like, created an
opening for the Horse. As the ball dropped in front of the Horse he produced
a scissor kick like volley. But to his disappointment his effort went wide of
the target. With
Rochestown continuing to press forward the pressure was on the defence. But
like all good sides they were up to the task. When I say defence I mean the
back four. When an offside trap is played perfectly only to have a wandering
midfield horse looking for the best patch to graze on does cause problems for
the side. What
looked like might be a finisher for KPMG was the move created by their new
signing. A temp in the office but hopefully a full timer on the pitch. He
skipped through the Rochestown defence to let rip on a thunderous shot. His
effort looked to be heading for the bottom corner only to swerve just wide. Tempers
boiled near the end of the game, as Hega’s emotions couldn’t be kept under
wraps. Maybe the Rochestown number 11 (Quirky) was playing better than him or
it could have been that for the first time this season Hega was being matched
physically. Eventually this got to Hega who made a reckless tackle on his
opposite number and was subsequently sent off. It didn’t stop there! Niallo
Barrett had to get some of the action for himself. This bloodthirsty defender
from Nemo had to get his own back on the Douglas player (editorial opinion). With
the final whistle only 30 seconds away, according to the referee, Rochestown
forced a corner. An in-swinging corner from Quirky was heading in to the
danger area only to be hacked out for another corner by Dazza Darren. The
final attack of the game proved to be the only real touch of the ball Gregson
had to make. The corner was kicked in with pace only to be punched away by a
voiceful KEEEEPPPPER! After
the game the sportsmanship of the accountants shone through as they shook
hands with Quirky (Rochestowns Number11) who they had had the tomfoolery with
during the game. |
