KPMG FC 1 – 3 Mc B FC

With key players missing for KPMG this match was sure to be difficult for the office boys. And that’s the way it turned out.  KPMG’s previous record of conceding no less than two goals a game came to a dramatic end and they were defeated by three goals to one.

The early chances of the game all fell to the KPMG team but with poor supplying of the final ball and lack lustre finishing these chances didn’t materialise to those all-important goals that win you games. To be honest the first half is much of a blur because a one person mentioned it was “like watching paint dry”.

The breakthrough came mid-way through the first half when Mc B’s caught the KPMG midfield and defence on the counter attack. Their quick pace and determination were enough to see them take the lead. A beautiful ball played through, split the KPMG defence, and left the Mc B striker have the chance to shoot on goal. This is exactly what happened. He side-footed a low shot to the bottom left corner.

With all the chances in the first half KPMG felt hard done by at half time.

The second half started much the brighter for Mc B’s and they had the better possession. They had a few long-range efforts but didn’t trouble the KPMG goal. The major turning point of the game came mid-way through the second half when KPMG has a player sent off just before the corner that proved to be the stone that broke KPMG’s back.

The ball came into the danger area with height and pace. KPMG’s keeper, usually solid as a rock, came off his line to claim the cross. He failed miserably to claim it and the ball was headed in but the Mc B midfielder at the far post. The KPMG players were fuming at the antics of the keeper and I don’t blame them.

Like always this team never gives up and they kept pushing forward and a corner was eventually won down the right side. Vinnie, a KPMG new boy, brought in via the Bosman ruling, curled a cracking ball into the Mc B area. Vincent who was perfectly placed got his boot around it and volleyed a shot past the out stretched Mc B keeper. Early in the season Vincent found scoring hard but now has two in two games.

With minutes to go the KPMG players pushed further forward looking for the equalizer. This left them open for the counter attack and this proved to be correct. A lightening break down the left wing was the start of what turned out to be the nail in the coffin.

With an unmarked man at the back post a goal was always on the cards. A ball played across the goal and passed the KPMG keeper left the Mc B forward to tap it in. But wait he’s miss hit it. The ball trickled towards the goal line. Gregson tried hard to scramble back to keep the ball out but with the wet ball and gloves his fingertips slipped off the balls surface. The ball crept over the line to give the KPMG side their biggest defeat of the season.
