KPMG FC 1 – 1 Super Scoopers
This
was KPMG’s first experience in the big leagues as they took on Super Scoopers
of Limerick. It’s the first time that KPMG have taken part in the Cork Weekend
Tournament and they now know what level they must play at in order to play
against the big guns in the Cork divisions. The match started in a blaze of sunshine with a nice cooling breeze
cascading over the New Pitch at Harlequins. Much of the early possession was
maintained by KPMG who, with the return of there seasoned professional Huggie
Bear the confidence was quietly lifted amongst the players. There also saw a
return of Danny, our nifty left-winger, whose pace would beat any player in
the English Diadora League. The early chances were created down the right wing as Briano worked
his magic with his Le Tissier like movement. His control was second to none
and it seemed at times as if the ball was glued to his boot. With twisting
and turning Briano Wanchope turned the Scoopers defence inside out but
lacking a clinical final ball nothing much came of these attacks. The breakthrough came midway through the second period of the first
half. A ball from the left was met by Deckie, who claiming the assist didn’t
seem to make contact, played the ball to the feet of Wanchope who from 4
yards out wasn’t going to miss. This is Briano’s 7th goal of the
season and is only one off the pace for that illustrious golden boot. Can he
catch Hughie? Time will tell. With Courtney away on PR work for his up and
cumming porn film he just doesn’t seem to have the time to put in the
training anymore. With half time looming, KPMG were confident of going into the break
with the one goal advantage. But this was to fall short after hero turns to
villain as Wanchope conceded a penalty. As the Scoopers man was placing the
ball, one of the Hega bro’s (not sure which one as there is so many) pointed
to the direction Barthez should dive. With his knowledge of keeping Barthez ignored
this advice and when the penalty was kicked got within millimetres of saving
it. A low thunderous shot was fired to Barthez’s right hand side, but
carrying an injury he made a valiant effort at it. No keeper in the world
(under 6foot) could have saved it. As the second half started it was clear that the Limerick team were
ready and weren’t going to go home without a fight. They pressurised the KPMG
midfield, which at times were seen in the fields grazing. This was how far from
the action some of them were at times. A few dubious offside decisions went KPMG’s way, as some of their
defending in parts wouldn’t have graced a schoolboy’s pitch. But with solid
defenders like Tango, Dazza, Deckie and Timmy Mallet, the KPMG goal was never
really under threat. As few long balls over the top were all the Scoopers
could muster as they pressed forward looking for that vital goal. The KPMG attack made some good opportunities for themselves but like
so much in the past they left their shooting boots in the office. No doubt
under the watchful eye of Tom the lift guy. A corner was forced late on by
KPMG after a good progressive move through midfield. This corner was whipped
in with the left boot of Conor. Rising above the Scoopers defence
was none other than “assist man” Declan Hegarty. His technique was that of
Kluivert, his finishing though was that similar to a certain John Wilson.
Never heard of him huh? Well with his kind of finishing it’s no wonder. A few long-range efforts were all that was left in this game. Not
played a blistering pace, the person who got the best exercise was the ball
boy, no thanks to Deckie. Another fine game by Dazza as his rock solid
defending has become a consistency in the KPMG performances. The next match
versus Aston Village should prove a much sterner test for the “Office Bhoys”
but only time will tell. |
