My School -Computer Room

The  computer room/library was offically opened by Niamh Bhreanthnach, the Minister for Education on the 12th of September 1996.

There are sixteen Apple Mac computers that we use for our computer class.

There is an 8 ft screen that is for teachers to show us our work.

On the roof  of computer/library room there are two windows that  you have to use a pole to pull across to close  the blind.

There are five Dells and one  Gateway 2ooo that we use for our Dissolving Boundaries project.

Library

In our library there is a large selection of books. The books are divided into  different sections.  These are the titles of the sections:

1.  Reference
2.  Geography
3.  History
4.  Science
5.EnvironmentalStudies
6.  Arts
7.  Literature & Language
8.  Religion
9.  Maths

In each of the sections underneath  them is a list.  On the list there are many listings of sections with a number beside  each listing.  These numbers are there so that you can look up all the books that are in the library. Each class visits the library to take out books.  There is also a large section for Fiction. Everybody loves to borrow these books...We love to read books by J.K. Rawling and Siobhan Parkinson.

The Playground

In our playground we have a section for junior and senior infants. The rest is for 1st to 6th.There are certain days for classes to have basketball and football .We have a shelter with art work on it. The art council gave us money to buy paint and to pay Ms. Own Gillespie. She drew out lines on the shelter and 6th class coloured  them in. In our school playground we play Pussy Four  Corners , Line Chasing, Polio, Crocodile Crocodile, Teachers Pet, Ice and Snow and Chocolate Fudge. We also have a bicycle shed for pupils that bring their bikes in.

School  Crest

This is the Kildare Place National School crest. Some people in our school have this jumper. You can buy it in school if you wish. It has the crest on it.

Sport

Football, swimming, hockey, badminton and table tennis are the sports we play in K.P.S.  For the past seventeen years in a row we've won the Corporation Interschool's Gala.  The boys have won eleven times in a row and the girls have won six times in a row.  In football we play teams but not often.  We have table tennis on Mondays and Wednesdays.  It's held  in the College of Education Gym.  The teacher is Miss Moloney.  Badminton is on Thursday and Friday, the teacher is Ms Morton.  Hockey is also on Thursday and Friday.  The teacher is Ms Bennet.  For the last term we do tennis and the teacher is Miss Moloney.

Number of teachers

In our school there are ten teachers and Mrs. Allen our principal also Mrs. Burns the secretary.  There are eight classes and eight teachers. The reason why there are two extra teachers is because one is for  learning support and the other teacher is for learning support with maths  Mrs. Burns sorts out files and money and keeps them safe.  There are also 5 other music teachers  who do music with some children. There is a piano, music, violin, recorder and flute.  There is an  orchestra teacher too.  Miss Walsh does music with 5th and 6th classes.

Subjects  taught

Here in Kildare Place School there are about 11 subjects taught. The main subjects are English, Irish, Maths and S.R.A.  There are other subjects taught such as History, Religion, Science, S.P.H.E., Singing, Geography and Art.  Each subject would take about half an hour to 45mins.
