The   old  houses  in  Rathmines  are  really different  to  modern  day  houses  in  Rathmines.  The  rooms  in  old  houses  are  huge  compared  to  the  size  of  the  rooms  in   modern  houses.  A  fair  sized  Georgian  house  would  have  nine  to  eleven  rooms  in  it.  The  rooms  in  older  houses  could  be  extended  into  two   fair  sized  rooms.  Most  of  the  houses  in  Rathmines  are  made  of  red  brick, and have  different   coloured  doors.   The  houses  on  Palmerston  Road   basically  have  three  stories,  but  on  Beechwood  Avenue   the  houses  only  have  two  stories.  In the current market these houses sell for over a million pounds.  Rathmines is less than a mile from the city centre.  It is also home to a lot of young flat dwellers.

Palmerston Park

Palmerston  Park  is  a  big  park. Palmerston   park  is  a  park  that  is  split  in  two. One  side  is  a  play-ground  with  lots  of  trees, swings, slides, climbing frames  and   play - houses.  Junior  Infants  and  Senior  Infants  go  on  a  teddy  bear's  picnic  during  the  summer.  There  is  a  tree  that  everybody  climbs.  Most  people  call  it   the   monkey  tree.  The  other  side  has  a  pond, plants  and  trees.  I  think  Palmerston Park  is  cool.

In the Swan Center there is about 22 shops. There are also a couple of  restaurants. 
The Banana Tree is a big  shop that sells make-up,  photo frames, jewellery and lots more.  It is about  one year old  and is doing very well in business.  It is similar to Zulu.
Golden Discs is a music shop. It has lots of  CDs  and tapes and it also sells play station games and videos.
Lifestyle sports is a sports shop.  It sells clothes, rackets and balls.  It was one of the first shops in the Swan Center.
Cards in gifts is a very nice shop.  It sells party things, books, little gifts and cards.
Dunnes Stores is a clothes shop and it also is a super market.  They also sell hair accessories, bags, shoes and newspapers.
Mc Donalds is a restaurant kids love.   It is very similar to Eddie Rockets but not as fancy.  Eddie Rockets is a very popular restaurant.   It is an American  restaurant that serves burgers, chips, sausages and lots more.
The Stella is a cinema in Rathmines.  It shows all the latest  films .
Extra Vision is a video rental store that sells videos and also rents them.  It also sells and rents play station games and DVDs.
There is also a Swimming pool in Rathmines.  It is a public pool.  Our school goes swimming there on a Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
