Establishment
The Student Council of the K.S.P.
was first established in Spring 1998. Each year since then,
a new Student Council Body (of 14 members) has been elected
during Term One of the new School Year. The
PR (Proportional Representation) System is used in the election
process and all students in Classes Third to Sixth have the
opportunity to put themselves forward and canvass for election
onto the Student Council. Children in Junior Infants up to
Second Class are represented on the council by students elected
from Sixth Class. It is their responsibility to promote the
interests of the pupils in these younger classes. All pupils
in Third to Sixth Class have the opportunity to vote in the
election. The election process is conducted in the same way
as an adult election and we have a private ballot! Emotions
run high during the Student Council Elections and it is always
a very exciting time in our school! The Student Council is
co-ordinated by Ms. Tynan, a teacher in our school.
Meetings
Meetings are convened on a regular
basis (e.g. one or two per term, but more frequently in advance
of organising a big school event e.g. the Whole School Fund
Raising Afternoon or Family Night Time Quiz etc.).
