According to legend, when Jesus was crucified a drop fell on the bird That is the reason it was called "red-breast".

Juveniles have no orange colour and are speckled brown.

There are about 2 million breeding pairs in Britain.

Males defend territories throughout the year whereas the females may wander up to 5 kms away during the winter.
