Cuckoo

Size: The cuckoo is about 30 cms long.
Obvious marks: The cuckoo has a feather on its head. It has some dots on its tail. Its feathers are grey. Sometimes it has grey and white feathers on the female stomach. It has yellow claws which are very sharp.
Where it lives: It lives in the nests of other birds
What it eats: It eats worms.
Colour of eggs: White
When you see them: During the day.
Beak: Its beak is brown and pointed.

The common cuckoo is the only cuckoo that says its name.

A cuckoo is not like every other bird.

Nearly every other bird lay eggs and keeps them in their own nest.

 

A cuckoo lays its eggs in another birds nest. When the young cuckoo is born featherless and blind, it heaves all the other eggs and chicks onto its back and out of the nest.

The North American cuckoo doesn't live in other birds nests.
