Pheasant

Size: The male is 79cms average and the female is 60cms average.
Obvious marks: The male has a white ring and red wattle. The female has nothing obvious.
Colour: A kind of a brownish red but with black feathers.
Where it lives: It lives in the wood.
What it eats: A pheasant eats wheat and worms.
Flight pattern: Fast and direct with rapid wing beats.
Colour of eggs: The colour of the eggs is brown.
How it catches food: It flies down and starts to peck at the prey.

The pheasant was introduced to Europe during Roman times .

In Winter, it would be necessary to put food out for them as they find it hard to hunt .

At least 15 species of pheasant are considered to be endangered but because they breed so well in captivity total extinction is unlikely.
