Lahardane beat Crossmolina by one point in this county minor league tie at James Stephens Park, on Friday evening last. Played in ideal weather conditions Lahardane’s Declan Leonard and Vinnie Cawley tormented the Deelsiders defence with some wonderful points from play. Gabriel Walsh kept Crossmolina in touch at half time with some great points from frees. It was 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.

There was little between the sides in the second half. Brendan Keane, Peadar Gardiner and Stephen Rochford, who was playing with the U-21 side in the opening game, were finding gaps in the Lahardane defence. On one such occasion Peadar Gardiner was clean through with only the keeper to beat. He tried placing the ball in the roof of the net but instead clipped the crossbar and it went over. A goal at this stage would have given Crossmolina a one point lead with only five minutes to play. Lahardane held out for a deserved one point win.
