Sean Munnelly Cup (26-December-97) Lahardane...................1-13 This annual tournament was concluded on St. Stephen's Day and ended up with Lahardane victorious. It was far closer than the game's scoreline suggests. The home side had two shots come off the woodwork as well as missing a first half penalty which would have saw them more in touch at half time, instead of being 0-6 to nil down. With Lahardane's foot going off the pedal more and more in the second half, the scores continued to come from Shane Blake and Francis Bryan. Knockmore's attacks finally found the target and a point was quickly followed by a goal at the second time of asking. Almost immediately the game was killed off with a Declan Leonard goal. Lahardane: E. Coyne, A. Marley, D. Kelly, A. Leonard, D. Sheridan, A. McDermott, M. Marley, S. Blake, J. Gillespie, B. Rowland, J. Rowland, V. Cawley, D. Leonard, F. Bryan, T. Cawley. Subs.: T. Marley (for M. Marley); N. Garrett (for T. Cawley). Ref.: S. McEil (Ballina). - The Cup was one of many present at Lahardane's dinner-dance held in Hiney's. Special guests were new County Board Chairman, P.J. McGrath, and Mayo player, Colm McManamon. <<Back |
