Under-12 'A' League Final (Monday 4-August-97) Lahardane...............1-8 Lahardane young guns take league title Lahardane created history last week in Kiltane when the club landed their first division under-12 'A' title when they beat Glenamoy. However, Lahardane had also to overcome Bonniconlon in this three way tie for the title, before they got a crack at Glenamoy to claim outright victory and the honours. This was a hard slog for a determined Lahardane side and the scoreline does not do justice to the gallant efforts of the lads from Glenamoy who put up a brave struggle in a game that was only won in the last ten minutes. However, Lahardane had the edge in a few key areas, particularly up front where corner forward Kevin Mulhern scored a crucial goal while Michael Madden followed the goal with two great points and there were other important scores from Alan Kelly and Kevin Ruttledge. However, it was the powerful midfield performance of Joseph Mulhern which tilted the game in favour of Lahardane and ensured the boys and girls would be returning home with the 'Butt of Nephin Cup'. Lahardane's defence must also take the kudos for a fine days work particularly the 'Sonia O'Sullivan' look-a-like, Niamh Leonard and Barry Leonard while Brian Jordan had a fine game in goals. Lahardane: Brian Jordan, Patrick Gilger, Ronan Forde, Colm Brennan, Barry Leonard (0-1); Kyle Nolan, Joseph Mulhern (0-1); Niamh Leonard, Michael Walsh (0-2); Kevin Ruttledge (0-2); Michael Madden (0-1); Alan Kelly (0-1); Kevin Mulhern. <<Back |
