Lahardane hold off battling Kiltane

A tight finish to this North Mayo under-21 tie at Glenhest typified all the hard tackling that went before it, as Lahardane hung on by two points.

The first half saw Lahardane lead 0-5 to 0-1 at one stage, only to see Kiltane claw their way back to trail by two points, 0-6 to 0-4 at the break.

The second half began much the same as the first, with the hardworking Declan Waters setting up Cormac Rowland for a point and James Gillepie putting Declan Leonard and Shane Blake on target for other Lahardane scores.

Kiltane drew level from a penalty and looked like winning at one stage.

But Lahardane raised their game and with further points by Mervyn Marley and James Gillespie and a goal from a penalty by James Gillespie pulled clear by six points. But in grandstand finish, Kiltane ran in a goal and a point to leave just two points seperating the teams at the end.
